Numerical simulation of the influence of a liner gap on three layer tandem EFP forming

Abstract: In order to study the influence of different liner gaps on a three layer tandem EFP warhead, this paper designs six schemes based on a three layer hemispherical liner, including a gap free liner, and liner gaps of 0.1 mm, 0.2 mm, 0.3 mm, 0.4 mm and 0.5 mm respectively. LS DYNA software is used for simulation, and the results are compared and analyzed. The results show that the existence of liner gap will affect the forming of three layer tandem EFP and increase the length diameter ratio of the three layer tandem EFP. Then, this paper increases the speed of EFP formed by the middle liner and the inner liner, and enhances the penetration ability of the three layer tandem EFP. When the liner gap is 0.5 mm, the incremental speeds are the greatest, which are 12.58% and 16.76% respectively. Among the six schemes, the penetration ability of the three layer tandem EFP is the strongest when the liner gap is 0.4 mm.
