Abstract: In order to solve the problem of the insufficient penetration capability of low density jet penetrating explosive reactive armors on the premise of “penetration but non detonation”, this paper carries out numerical simulation to determine whether or not a hyper shaped charge PTFE jet detonates the internal sandwich charge after penetrating the reaction armor and and the effect on subsequent main armor penetration. It also makes a comparison with the effect on subsequent main armor penetration of a PTFE jet of the same charge. The numerical simulation results show that, under the condition of more than twice the height of the explosive, the hyper shaped charge PTFE jet can ensure “penetration but non detonation” on the reaction armor. This jet formed through the hyper shaped charge structure forms a larger depth to the main armor penetration than the polymer PTFE jet does, with an increase of 96% but a decrease of 26.9% for the pore size. Through the numerical simulation results, it can be concluded that the hyper shaped charge PTFE jet can effectively increase the subsequent penetration capability while ensuring that the penetration of the explosive reactive armor “penetration but non detonation”.
