Study of NC/Bu NENA based propellant’s properties(Ⅲ):stability, mechanical property, mechanical sensitivity

Abstract: In order to investigate the effect of N butyl N nitratoethylnitramine (Bu NENA) on stability, mechanical property, mechanical sensitivity of NC based propellants, the propellant samples were prepared through a solventless extrusion technique. The acidity and PH value, and Abel test value of Bu NENA were tested, and the strength of extension, elongation, hock strength, glass transition temperature, dynamic mechanics performance, impact sensitivity and friction sensitivity of propellant were obtained. The method to represent the thermal stability of Bu NENA, the change and mechanism of thermal stability, mechanical properties, mechanical sensitivities of NC/Bu NENA based propellant was studied. The results showed that: It was better to adopt acidity to represent thermal stability of Bu NENA; when NG was replaced by Bu NENA, the thermal stability of propellant was better, the methyl violet test time was 95 min (120 ℃ );tensile strength was reduced, elongation and shock strength was enhanced rapidly, the elongation in -40 ℃ enhanced by 74.73%, the glass transition temperature was lower by 11.2 ℃, so it could lead positive influence to the preparation technology of NC/Bu NENA based propellant and enhance the safety in the preparation process; mechanical sensitivities was reduced signally and the reason perhaps is the mechanical sensitivity of Bu NENA is lower and the plasticizing capacity of Bu NENA on NC is better than NG.
