Abstract: The aerodynamic and motion characteristics of a cylinder separated from a cavity model were studied by the wind tunnel freedrop testing based on dynamic similarity. The pressure distribution measurement on the surface of the dynamic model was explored by using the fast response pressure sensitive paint (Fast PSP). The effects of different attack angle (α=0°,-1.5°,-3°) of the cavity model and different positions of the store in the cavity (L0=25 mm,39 mm)were studied. The results show that the position of the store in the cavity has the greatest influence on the separation characteristics. When the distance is L0=25 mm, the pressure on the head area of the store model is obviously higher than that in the rear area, which results in a nose up pitching moment, increasing the pitch angle of the store model and finally collides with the cavity model. Reducing the angle of attack of the cavity model does not change the effect of the store model colliding with the cavity model. When the distance is L0=39 mm, the store model can be safely separated from the cavity model at the given angle of attack.
