Abstract: Prop Engine cooperation performance is directly related to the overall performance of the propeller aircraft. A speed selection method for propeller engine matching during cruise phase was studied for piston powered propeller aircraft. Based on the calculation models of propellers, piston engines, and aircraft flight performance, the relationship between propeller pitch ratio and propeller efficiency was established by introducing matching thrust coefficient parameters. The optimal propeller engine matching speed was obtained by using the ratio of propeller efficiency to engine fuel consumption. Using this optimization method, different optimal propeller engine matching speeds were calculated for the aircraft’s continuously decreasing weight during flight, as the basis for selecting cruise profile propeller engine matching speeds, and performance calculation analysis was conducted. The calculation results show that the optimal speed selection flight using propeller engine matching during the aircraft cruise phase can significantly improve cruise performance compared to constant speed flight.
