Review on time varying formation control technology for UAV

Abstract: As a typical unmanned combat platform, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are representative of new combat forces, which have attracted the attention of many military powers and carried out a lot of high cost theoretical research. Among them, the UAV formation combat mode has high combat effectiveness and application value and has been widely considered and studied by many scholars. In order to accurately grasp the current research trends of UAV formation operations, some typical domestic and international projects and research processes are first introduced. Then, the relevant control technologies and their advantages and disadvantages of single UAV and UAV formation control are summarized. After that, the causes of instability, easy crashes, and poor stability of UAV formation are analyzed, which are mainly affected by external disturbance and communication delay, and the corresponding solutions are summarized. Finally, the research on UAV time varying formation control technology is summarized and prospected, which lays a foundation for further research on UAV formation control stability.
