Study on the effect of fragment arrangement on the power of multifunctional warhead

Abstract: In order to study the effect of fragment arrangement on the power of multi functional warhead, the influence of different arrangement of spherical and square fragments on jet forming and fragment flying characteristics of multi functional warhead is studied based on LS DYNA finite element software. The results show that the asymmetric arrangement of different types of fragments destroys the symmetry of detonation wave, causes the jet to bend and tilt, and decreases the penetration ability. The jet velocity and penetration depth of the square fragment in the warhead increased by 7.50% and 13.71% compared with that of the spherical fragment in the warhead. The fragment velocity and dispersion characteristics of different arrangement modes are significantly different. The average velocity of spherical fragment is up to 1 464 m/s and the minimum velocity is 1 174 m/s, while the average velocity of square fragment is up to 791 m/s and the minimum velocity is 617 m/s, and the fragment dispersion Angle and direction Angle near the head of the projectile body are small. However, the dispersion angle and direction angle of fragments near the tail of the projectile body are larger.
