Abstract: As the most important passive jamming means against precision guided weapons, jamming materials and smoke screens are the research focus of the new generation passive jamming technology. The development of jamming materials and smoking equipment highly relies on theoretical guidance, scientific tests and evaluation results. This study systematically analyzes the current status, problems and prospects of the shielding performance evaluation of jamming materials and smoke screens from two aspects: the shielding performance evaluation method and the basic law of electromagnetic wave absorption. The results show that the current three main shielding performance evaluation methods provide important support for the development of jamming materials and smoking equipment. The analysis shows that the rationality of the calculation formula of the mass extinction coefficient is questionable. Combined with the deduction of Lambert Beer’s law, this paper obtains the revised calculation of the smoke screen mass extinction coefficient, which makes the calculation result more accurate. This paper puts forward the limiting condition that the mass extinction coefficient in smoke screens is only applicable to uniform nonscattering smoke screen systems, and the development trend that mutual verification of various smoke screen shielding performance evaluation results is realized.
