Abstract: In order to study the effect of different alginates on the coating effect and properties of HMX, this paper prepares four kinds of alginates/HMX composite energetic materials containing different metal ions by using ion cross linking curing reaction and a microcapsule granulator, with raw materials of sodium alginate and HMX as well as curing liquids of calcium chloride, barium chloride, copper chloride and cobalt chloride. A scanning electron microscope, an X ray diffractometer, an X ray photoelectron spectrometer and a differential scanning calorimeter are used to test the coating effect and thermal properties of the samples, and the mechanical sensitivity of the samples is also tested. The results show that the particle of the barium alginate/HMX composite energetic material is uniform and in a densely covered spherical shape; the crystal forms of the four alginate/HMX composite materials have not changed. The apparent activation energy of the samples coated with copper alginate is 30.15 kJ/mol lower than that of HMX, while the apparent activation energy of the samples coated with calcium alginate, barium alginate and cobalt alginate is higher than that of HMX. Compared with HMX, the mechanical sensitivity of all four samples decreases, among which the friction pressure of the barium alginate/HMX composite energetic material increases by 128 N, being the lowest in sensitivity and the best in effect of sensitivity reduction.
